Las Cruces police arrested the man believed to be responsible for Saturday evening’s shooting that injured a woman on west Picacho Avenue.
Christian Cervantes Nieto, 19, is charged with felony counts of shooting at a house or dwelling, aggravated residential burglary and aggravated assault. He also faces three misdemeanor counts of failure to appear.
About 10:30 p.m. Saturday, June 15, police were dispatched to the report of shots fired at an apartment on the 1900 block of west Picacho Avenue. Officers arrived and learned that an unknown man discharged several rounds from a shotgun into at an apartment.
The man then allegedly entered the apartment and pointed the shotgun at a 36-year-old woman while making demands. The man ultimately fled the area in a black sport utility vehicle.
The woman received relatively minor injuries to an arm from either the shotgun pellets or from broken glass. She received medical attention at the scene but refused offers to be transported to a hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Through their investigation, Las Cruces police detectives determined that Nieto was the suspect in the shooting. Police located Nieto Sunday morning and arrested him. Officers recovered a shotgun in his possession.
Nieto was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he is initially being held without bond.
