Las Cruces Police arrest woman in stabbing death

The Las Cruces Police Department arrested a woman investigators believed was involved in the stabbing death of a 30-year-old Hispanic man.
LCPD identified 28 year-old Selena Carrillo as being involved in the stabbing death of Michael Mata on Aug. 29, 2024.
At approximately 11:45 a.m., on Aug. 29, 2024, officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Buchanan in response to a domestic disturbance, according to police. Upon arrival, officers discovered Mata, who had sustained multiple injuries as a result of a stabbing. Mata was transported to Mountain View Regional Medical Center where he died.
Carrillo was arrested and charged with murder and booked into the Doña Ana Detention Center. She was also charged with battery of a household member.
