ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE: U.S. Highway 82 is closed from Florida Avenue in Alamogordo to High Rolls, according to a message Cloudcroft Municipal Schools sent to families at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday.
“Parents and guardians picking up students will need to seek an alternate route,” the district said, recommending N.M. 244 through Mescalero or Fresnal Canyon Road through High Rolls.
According to Cloudcroft’s Police Chief Roger Schoolcraft, A semi-truck carrying steel I-beams crashed after losing its brakes and will need a crane to remove the wreckage.
“He narrowly missed several vehicles…I know that there were injuries at the scene, but I’m not sure how significant,” Schoolcraft said.
No reopening time has been announced. Check NMRoads.com for current conditions.
